Advice on the work of the House
The staff of the Department of Chamber and Committee
Services support every aspect of the business of the House
and its committees, for example, in the legislative process,
providing the staff of select committees, and advising on
parliamentary questions. They will advise you in strict
confidence and they can advise you not only on the rules and
practices of the House but on which may be tactically best
for you to follow. They are employed by the House, not the
Government, and are not civil servants. They are politically
strictly impartial and will not always volunteer information
without being asked, since in some circumstances this could
amount to taking sides.
